Made famous by the 1942 film starring Humphrey Bogart where Sam was asked to ‘play it again’ by Ingrid Bergman, Casablanca is no longer a pirate’s lair but a vibrant cosmopolitan town offering the best of modern Morocco. The nightclubs remain but have been joined by designer shops, wide boulevards, gardens and fountains. For a more relaxed ambiance, try the old Portuguese town of El Jadida, 100km further down the coast.
